Ogham, is an old disfigured Celtic druid who lives in a timeless, magical realm. Along with possessing significant power over nature, he has the ability to travel from his realm to our earthly realm. The year is 1649. Famine and plague is rife and Oliver Cromwell`s brutalist regime is taking control of the country. High up on the Wicklow mountains, Mactire, (a play on the Gaelic words, Mac Tire.) a mischievous young wolf enjoys an idyllic life. His youthful innocence is crushed when raucous bounty hunters ravage the countryside. A bounty is set on wolves by the ruthless, all conquering Lord Cromwell, and so begins the struggles and adventures of a pack of wolves, who show more love, loyalty and courage than most humans could ever understand. Following his instinct and the shadow of a mysterious old man, Mactire leads the wolf pack across hundreds of miles of beautiful mystical lands. From the rugged Wicklow mountains, to the megalithic tombs of New-Grange, the birthplace of Ogham`s ancient Ebdani tribe. They are accompanied by a feisty, little Irish terrier (Spoteen) who fancies himself as a pack leader. Meanwhile, Cromwell`s forces blight the countryside, razing almost one third of the lands natural forestry, and subjecting the Irish people to brutal, harsh treatment. Banshee`s add their own particular brand of mystical terror to this story. Eeval is malevolent to the core, while her half-sister Morrigan appears to have a heart. Strange events occur around a fairy fort. A reclusive Leprechaun and a host of creepy Clurichauns play their part in the fight against hunting and deforestation. Good, bad and weird forces clash in the struggles that surround Mactire as he and his kind are encroached upon by humans. Ultimately, it seems that the wolves are doomed. Hunters follow them to their last sanctuary, but Mactire has strong allies in the Druid and the dragon and salvation is not beyond all hope. Cromwell appears to be a heartless enigma who refuses to accept anything less than total dominance, yet even this cold hearted slayer is forced to consider his actions when he comes up against mystical forces Rosemarie Shields is the proud, working mother of two grown sons.
